On September 29th, 2024 we celebrated Joseph Pilmoor Day with the congregations of City Road UMC, Moyock UMC, and Pilmoor Memorial UMC coming together for worship and a picnic lunch.
A little history…in September 28th 1772 a Methodist preacher from England who was making his way to Georgia stopped in Currituck, North Carolina. From the steps of what is now the historic courthouse, Joseph Pilmoor preached a riveting sermon on baptism by “water and fire from heaven” and thus began the Methodist movement in our state.
Pilmoor Memorial UMC stands as a marker of that historic event and the congregation has invited other United Methodist and AME churches in the community to participate in the sharing of that legacy with Joseph Pilmoor Day 2024.
Pilmoor Memorial knows that the Methodist movement began with Joseph Pilmoor’s message is not the legacy of just one church but all our United Methodist and AME siblings in NC. This time of worship and celebration of the connection was an opportunity for us to share how the MOVMENT lives on in all the congregations that attended.
